American White Ash is a hardwood that is course and with a straight grain normally. Ash has an almost white colour heartwood. A unique attractiveness of planed American White Ash is the contrast between sapwood and heartwood, which makes it a unique timber, commonly described as the most attractive planed timber.

Traditionally planed Ash timber is a non-durable timber and can be vulnerable to attack from some parasites, however planed Ash timber responds excellent to treatment which is designed to preserve and protect the timber. There are protective timber treatments that are perfect for planed Ash timber.
American white Ash wood is known to dry quickly, whilst having little impact on the joinery grade timber quality.
American Ash planed timber is known to be strong and tough with elastic properties, meaning it works well with machining tools and hand planning.
