Southern Yellow Pine is a relatively low-strength soft timber, however the real benefit of Southern Yellow Pine lies in its visual appeal with the heartwood being a light yellow to red-brown finish and the sapwood pale yellow or orange finish.
Southern Yellow Pine consists of a medium to coarse texture and a beautiful straight grain that makes it suitable for a wide range of gorgeous furniture, flooring, and joinery projects.
Yellow Pine is a very stable timber, typically with wider boards than Redwood and is harder and stronger than Redwood. Yellow Pine is, fairly, durable and resistant to decay.
This timber has an excellent finish when planed as the grain is very consistent and attractive. This timber, due to its fine fish, is often used in stair components.

Durability Notes:
Southern Yellow Pine has moderate resistance to decay but can be vulnerable to insect attack. The sapwood is permeable for preservative treatment, but the heartwood is resistant. SYP is not normally used externally.
Typical Uses:
Joinery, domestic flooring, railway sleepers ,Railroad ties, heavy construction, bridges, mine timbers, decking, boxes, crates, pallets, particleboard and pulp. Turpentine and resin are also produced from the wood.
