Planed Utile Timber:
Utile has a light brown sapwood which is visually very different from the heartwood, which is a pinkish brown finish.
It is widely considered that Utile is probably the genuine alternative to Mahogany. Utile most closely resembles the Mahogany, which it is so often used to replace.
In terms of woodworking. Utile needs an experienced craftsman as it is quite a hard timber to work. The natural Cedar like aroma and beautiful colouration means any trouble working the timber will be worth it when you see the result.
Similar to Sapele, Utile is of reddish-brown in colour. The grain is interlocked, producing a ribbon-stripe appearance.
As a timber, Utile is more durable and often used for external joinery such as windows and doors.

This wood is for external applications (can be used internally if needed).
The heartwood of Utile is durable and resistant to decay, whereas the sapwood is less so. Highly resistant to preservative treatment. Very good exterior performer. Dense and works well.
Furniture and cabinetmaking, turnery, interior and exterior joinery, boatbuilding, musical instruments, counter tops, kitchen cabinets, office furniture, window frames and sports goods. Utile is also sliced for decorative veneers and rotary-cut for plywood.
