Sawn Iroko Timber:
If you are looking for a strong sturdy timber for your DIY then Iroko wood could be the perfect timber for you. Iroko wood is a tough, dense, highly durable wood with a rich coloured grain.
Although the grain, of Iroko, can be course, the rich yellow colour of the sapwood is clearly different from the golden brown of the sapwood.
Over time sawn Iroko timber ages and weathers to a beautiful silver-grey colour.
With a highly durable nature, Iroko timber is the ideal timber for a wide range of woodworking projects including external joinery, windows, decking and panelling.
Iroko is a timber that does not require regular varnishing or similar treatments, that other timbers require.
Iroko can be known to be hard to work with mainly due to its density and notorious tight grain. Cross graining issues can occur in finishing. Iroko is regarded as a naturally oily wood which ultimately, when exposed, enhances its durability and performance.
Methylated spirit is recommended if you wish to stain / paint as this will de-oil the Iroko timber to best receive the finishes.

Thickness: 25 - 100 mm
Width: 50 - 220 mm
Length: 600 - 4200 mm
This wood is for external applications (can be used internally if needed).
Iroko has medium density and a tolerable steam-bending rating. It works adequately with hand tools. Tolerable to severe blunting effect on cutting edges. Planing, turning and moulding - the results are generally good. Interlocked grain can cause tearing and the mineral deposits can blunt cutters rapidly. It glues, nails and stains well and screws, varnishes and paints adequately. Naturally oily, Iroko, needs to be de-oiled with methylated spirit before painting. Iroko can be brought to a high gloss finish after filling.
